M&A Integrations: Unified Global Sites with Minimal External Help

Situation:

Following a acquisition of Rofin a similar size company, the organization needed to integrate 25 global sites into a standardized business process and systems environment.

Task:

Lead the integration of ERP, CRM, MES, and PLM systems across all sites while minimizing reliance on external consultants and ensuring end-user support and training.

Action:

Directed a comprehensive business/IT integration effort over three years, leveraging internal resources to design, implement, and support the systems rollout. Developed and deployed training programs tailored to diverse user groups at each site, ensuring smooth adoption. Maintained continuous communication and hands-on support throughout.

Results:

Successfully integrated 25 sites under unified systems and standardized processes with minimal external consulting costs, saving over $20 million. Achieved high adoption rates and operational consistency globally, with minimal disruption to business operations.

Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Implementation: Cost-Effective In-House Azure SaaS

Situation:

The company needed a scalable MES solution to support manufacturing operations at over 25 global sites with 3000+ daily users. Off-the-shelf solutions were cost-prohibitive.

Task:

Deliver a cost-effective, scalable MES system that meets global operational needs without exceeding budget constraints.

Action:

Led the development and deployment of a custom-built, Azure-based SaaS MES platform, tailored to specific manufacturing requirements. Conducted user engagements and iterative feedback sessions to refine functionality and usability.

Results:

Rolled out the MES solution globally, supporting 3000+ daily users and 25+ sites. Avoided a $24+ million expense by opting for an in-house developed solution, while improving operational visibility and control.

COVID-19 Response and Cybersecurity Enhancement

Situation:

Just one week after taking on the CIO role, the COVID-19 pandemic required rapid scaling of secure remote work capabilities and enhanced collaboration tools under tight budget constraints.

Task:

Implement robust remote collaboration infrastructure quickly while strengthening the company’s cybersecurity posture. Additionally, avoid significant additional spend on new collaboration software.

Action:

Rapidly deployed Microsoft Teams utilizing existing Microsoft E3 licenses, avoiding millions in additional software costs. Expanded secure remote access infrastructure and implemented a zero-trust security framework, enhancing endpoint detection, cloud authentication, vulnerability management, and comprehensive change management.

Results:

Enabled uninterrupted remote work and collaboration during the pandemic with zero disruption. Elevated the cybersecurity rating from “C” to “A,” reduced security incidents by 50%, and established a strong security foundation aligned with modern best practices.

Transition to Transformation Team Post II-VI Acquisition

Situation:

Post-acquisition by II-VI, operations for majority of our products shifted from discrete to process manufacturing with high volume, low mix production, requiring business process and system realignment.

Task:

Lead efforts to standardize business processes, implement data governance, and leverage AI to support the evolving manufacturing models.

Action:

Joined the transformation team to drive process standardization and ERP discovery. Spearheaded data standardization initiatives and deployed AI-powered analytics and automation solutions aligned with the new manufacturing demands. Collaborated closely with business units to ensure alignment and adoption.

Results:

Established scalable processes and robust data frameworks that enabled efficient high-volume manufacturing. Improved data quality and analytics capabilities created significant value, generating over $4 million in cost savings through AI-driven automation and enhanced decision-making.
